A
view of the bridge over the Sacramento River
at Sims Flat Campground. This is a historic bridge built by the Civilian
Conservation Crops in the 1930s.
This
is a great little campground less than a mile from Interstate 5 located right
near the Siskiyou County line, the camp is actually located in Shasta County .
Open Dates: Typically open April through November, weather permitting.
Number of Campsites: 19 sites, no
reservations. Mid size RV's and campers can be accommodated as well as
tents. Maximum spur: 20 feet.
Fees: Self-registration
fee station at entrance. $15.00 per night. 14 day limit.

Location/Address: Between Castella
and Dunsmuir , California along Interstate 5. (About 15 miles from Lakehead, California) Take
exit 718 (Sims Exit) off of Interstate 5 and head East. Follow the road
approximately a mile until you see the bridge that crosses the Sacramento River cross the river and very shortly you
will arrive at the camp ground. The camp entrance is at the beginning of
the bridge pictured above.

Pacific freight trains as they make their way through the canyon.
The tracks are on the opposite side of the river from the
campground.
- Whitewater boating during spring run off
- Historic trail along the campground following the
river. The trail goes through a old mill and a former CCC camp.
General Description:
Sites
have both trees and clear areas. Most sites are across from the river,
but very pleasant. Great location for a overnight stop while traveling
Interstate 5. Road is paved or gravel. No RV sanitation facilities. Deer, bear and birds frequent area.

etc.:
Can be obtained at Dunsmuir, or Castella within a few miles. Mt. Shasta
City is approximately 20
miles and has the nearest hospital.
